Faculty members and students in our department are associated with the following online and print publications devoted to nonfiction, fiction, and poetry.
Collision
Founded in 2001, Collision Literary Magazine is one of two undergraduate publications in the nation dedicated exclusively to creative nonfiction prose and poetry.
Each semester, Collision publishes personal essays and narratives, travel pieces, profiles, poems, art, and photography by undergraduates from the University of Pittsburgh and all over the world. Collision is a publication of Pitt's University Honors College.
Hot Metal Bridge
Hot Metal Bridge, a literary magazine run by students in Pitt's graduate program in writing, publishes issues each fall and spring. It has published work by Russell Banks, Tom Perotta, Maxine Hong Kingston, Dan Chaon, Michelle Wildgen, Ewa Chrusciel, Charles Baxter, and Don Lee, as well as new material by emerging and previously unpublished writers. Hot Metal Bridge seeks to publish accomplished, surprising work in contemporary literature.
Longform
The University of Pittsburgh Writing Program is proud to sponsor Longform.org, which recommends new and classic fiction and nonfiction over 2,000 words from around the web. Longform produces a podcast that features interviews with writers and editors of publications including the New Yorker, Texas Monthly, New York, Rolling Stone, New York Times Magazine, Esquire, GQ, Pro Publica, and more. They also offer an app that makes keeping up with Longform easy and fun. Visiting Lecturer Robyn Jodlowski is one of the editors.
The Original
The Original is a nonprofit, semiannual arts and culture publication dedicated to highlighting the talent of artists and leaders in the Pittsburgh region. It is beautifully illustrated and designed.
Founded at Pitt in 2006, The Original is managed by a collective of local volunteers who aim to bring accessible art and creative writing to the general public, while promoting unique organizations and individuals in their city. The Original is supported in part by a Sprout Fund Seed Award and grants from the University's Career Development Office, Office of Public Affairs, Office of Student Life, Pitt Arts program, School of Arts and Sciences, School of Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Studies program, Studio Arts Department, and Student Government Board.
Three Rivers Review
Three Rivers Review of Undergraduate Literature (TRR) is an annual student-run publication of Pitt's University Honors College. It seeks to enliven, foster, and publish the best undergraduate fiction and poetry in the greater Pittsburgh area.
TRR accepts submissions September 15 to January 15 of each academic year from undergraduate students at Pitt's Pittsburgh and regional campuses and other undergraduate institutions in the tri-state region.
Three Rivers Review can be found in print across campus and at select Pittsburgh booksellers and is available digitally.
